The Syrian Crisis

worked with Handicap International Organization, before i got married for around 5 months. It is a non-profit organization that works in situations of poverty and disaster, it's funded by the UNHCR. Its main projects are the DVFP( Disability and Vulnerability Focal Point), beside it comes the project of basic needs. The DVFP project aims at assessing Syrian disabled people who were affected by the war and then supplying them with necessary physical artificial materials or non-physical tools they need to improve their living conditions. While the basic needs project aims at assessing Syrian family refugees and responded to their essential needs, so Handicap International provided them with mattresses, covers, hygiene and food kits.

Through out this experience I learned a lot of things that I will never forget, and faced many incidents that made me really feel sorry for those refugees specially the injured ones, and I wished I was able to do more than what I have done. I met many people who were really vulnerable and needed provision, who were only praying for God that they find someone to provide them with money to buy bread. I met many kids who lost their parents. Many wives who lost their husbands. Many husbands who lost their wives. Many sisters who lost their brothers. Many brothers who lost their sisters. They lost their homes, their cars, their jobs and their humanity was stolen from them. They became having no purpose to stay alive or having anything precious to fight for. Tears of all those were always ready to fall down on their cheeks at any time.

One incident that really touched my heart was of a boy who was injured in his back due to a bomb spall that hit his spinal cord at the bottom and made him in bed forever unable to walk. When I saw him and I knew his story I couldn't stop crying. I started to think how some people are living a luxurious life, only thinking how to make money and how to spend it, and on the other hand how these refugees wished to have nothing except a healthy body and to be normal human beings like others.

I want to say what is the fault of those innocent kids to grow up without a mother or father? What is the fault of those husbands or wives to live without their partners and handle the burden of life alone? What is the fault of many of those who got injured and became disabled all life?
I'm always trying to find answers for these questions and I wished I could reached any. I just wonder how do rulers develop a kind of gluttony and kill others to stay on a throne a life long. How dare they kill others to conquer and control other lands and other peoples' property?

I'm really upset and disappointed for what is happening in the Arab Wold, and I wonder when these catastrophes are going to come to an end end. I wonder when we are going to live in peace and happily for ever without killing each other for material things.

It is not the fault for anybody but the fault of the ignorance and the leaders of Arab world because they don’t unit to overcome like these problems and catastrophes and live in peace without any war or killing each other for material things.

It is so sad to hear only bad news about the Syrian crisis. Whenever, I switch on television to watch some news, I find out that there is no hope of fixing this catastrophe. Millions of children, women, elders have passed away without it being their fault and yet more blood is staining the blue sky of Syria and of the Arab world as well. I am glad that in some way you cooperated to help these less fortunate people. Now more than ever, the Arab world should be united to overcome this crisis. A small act of kindness would mean a lot to them.
